Pet Treat Recall

In The News

In an effort to ensure your pet’s safety at all times, our friends at Central Veterinary Associates would like to inform you of the extensive voluntary pet treat recall that was announced last month. The treats are manufactured by Kasel Associates Industries, Inc. and carried by such popular retailers as Target, Petco, Sam’s Club, and Costco. The following brands have been recalled, after some of the products tested positive for Salmonella:

  • Boots & Barkley
  • Bixbi
  • Nature’s Deli
  • Colorado Naturals
  • Petco
  • Best Bully Stick items
Both humans and pets can become infected by handling products infected with Salmonella.

Other companies that are issuing recalls include The Honest Kitchen (Verve, Zeal, and Thrive brands); Nutri-Vet, LLC (Nutri-Vet and NutriPet Chicken Jerky Products); and Kaytee Products (several bird treats and green items).

“Both humans and pets can become infected with Salmonella by handling such products,” says Dr. John Charos, Chief Executive Office of Central Veterinary Associates. “If you have any of the recalled products, it’s best that you dispose of them immediately and monitor your pets for any signs of vomiting, diarrhea, and fever. If your pet has consumed any of the recalled products or if they are exhibiting any symptoms of Salmonella poisoning, it’s best that you call your veterinarian as soon as possible.”

Central Veterinary Associates’ Valley Stream office is open 24-hours a day, seven days a week. For more information, or to make an appointment, call Central Veterinary Associates at (516) 825-3066 or visit www.centralvets.com.
